Default Rep
Overview
Default Rep is a command for resetting the design view representation of selected assembly components in Inventor. This is especially useful for restoring a clean, standardized view after extensive modeling or visibility changes.
Design view representations help manage how assemblies appear in drawings and during modeling. They allow users to create custom views, control component visibility, and apply appearance overrides for specific tasks or documentation needs.
When visibility of nested components is modified, the design view may revert to the Primary view, which can display all work planes, axes, and other elements, making the workspace cluttered and harder to manage. Default Rep simplifies the process by allowing you to quickly revert multiple components back to the Default design view representation.
This command is ideal for users who need to maintain consistent views across assemblies, prepare models for drawing creation, or clean up the workspace before further design work.
How It Works
- Launch the Default Rep command from the Configure panel.
- Select the assembly component(s) you want to reset.
- The command reverts the selected components to the Default design view representation.
- Continue selecting additional components as prompted to update their design views.

- Click the Default Rep button in the Configure panel.
- Select the components to reset as prompted.
- Repeat as needed to update multiple components.
Troubleshooting
- If the view is not restored as expected, verify that the correct components are selected.
